From Dr. Russ Newman
I have received a ton of emails and phone calls about the possible radioactive fall out from Japan. Potassium Iodide inhibits the uptake of Iodine to the thyroid.
I personally would not take or use Potassium Iodide, here is my response to another email below in blue.

GENERIC NAME: POTASSIUM IODIDE - ORAL
BRAND NAME(S): SSKI
Medication Uses | How To Use | Side Effects
| Precautions | Drug Interactions | Overdose | Notes | Missed Dose | Storage
USES: Potassium iodide is used to loosen and break up mucus in the airways. This helps you cough up the mucus so you can breathe more easily if you have long-term lung problems (e.g., asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema). This medication is known as an expectorant.Potassium iodide is also used along with antithyroid medicines to prepare the thyroid gland for surgical removal, to treat certain overactive thyroid conditions (hyperthyroidism), and to protect the thyroid in a radiation exposure emergency. It works by shrinking the size of the thyroid gland and decreasing the amount of thyroid hormones produced.
In a radiation emergency, potassium iodide blocks only the thyroid from absorbing radioactive iodine, protecting it from damage and reducing the risk of thyroid cancer. Use this medication along with other emergency measures that will be recommended to you by public health and safety officials (e.g., finding safe shelter, evacuation, controlling food supply).OTHER This section contains uses of this drug that are not listed in the approved professional labeling for the drug but that may be prescribed by your health care professional. Use this drug for a condition that is listed in this section only if it has been so prescribed by your health care professional. This drug may also be used to treat a certain type of fungal skin infection (sporotrichosis).
Sure lets reduce the size of the thyroid and decrease the amount of thyroid hormones that everyone needs to put the body totally out of biological balance....then we can all walk around like a bunch drugged up dumb down zombies. Just another useless statement supported by the drug companies. People are going to believe what they want, I personally would not put this drug into my body. The human body NEEDS Detoxified IODINE to protect the thyroid and help the body make all the hormones the body must have to function properly. If your already taking our Detoxified Iodine then you are well protected.

Brown Konbu……SEAWEED……….U-Fucoidan: Anti-Cancer Substance
SEAWEED
U-Fucoidan: Anti-Cancer Substance
Konbu (Laminaria ssp.) contains a substance that causes cancer cells to self-destruct. It has only been recently discovered in Japan that this substance is U-fucoidan, a complex polysaccharide, one among many polysaccharides found in konbu. In research in Japan, U-fucoidan administered to cancer cells in a laboratory dish were virtually wiped out within 72 hours. The process by which these cells withered away was self-induced, in that the DNA within each of the cancer cells was broken down by digestive enzymes contained in the cells themselves. This process is known by the technical term "apoptosis".
Although U-fucoidan is found in other seaweeds and plants, konbu is particularly rich in this substance. And, very importantly, in order to consume fucoidan in its pure and effective form, one has to eat konbu raw or dried without heating. It is interesting to note that Okinawa, Japan has the lowest cancer mortality rate in Japan where the people eat their konbu mostly, versus other parts of Japan where it is used mostly in cooking.
(Reference: Takara Shuzo Co., Ltd. Biomedical Group, Otsu, Shiga, Japan)
Modifilan contains nothing but the central vein of Laminaria which has been gently dried without heating, and without any chemical sprays or preservatives. Modifilan, unlike plain dried seaweed, contains a much higher percentage of complex polysaccharides or alginates (40%), in which the U-fucoidan is contained.
SEAWEED
Alginate
Alginates are heteropolysaccharides made up of mannuronic and guluronic acids. Modifilan has 40-60% alginates. It is widely known that alginates from brown seaweed offer the best protection from radiation and environmental pollutants. Alginates bind with heavy metals such as lead, mercury and other; radioactive elements: strontium, barium, cesium etc. and are then excreted from the body. Alginates are non-toxic and are not reabsorbed into the rest of the body from the gastrointestinal tract. Alginates do not adversely effect the body’s ability to absorb calcium and other natural minerals.
Benefits of Modifilan

SEAWEED
Modifilan is a concentrated extract of the brown seaweed Laminaria japonica. This seaweed is gathered in the clean waters of the northwestern Pacific Ocean. Forty pounds of raw Laminaria japonica is needed to make just one pound of Modifilan. This unique patented technology "semidigests" the tough outerlayer of seaweed fibers exposing, concentrating and making much more bio-available the macro-and micronutrient-dense central vein of the Laminaria.Although the nutritional and medicinal powers of seaweeds have been known for thousands of years the scientific basis of their health benefits has been established only recently.
One of the most impressive aspects of Modifilan that sets it apart from other types of seaweed products is its very high content of soluble polysaccharides like fucoidan, laminarin and alginate. The former compound is particularly rich in such simple sugars as glucuronic acid, mannose and fucose that give Laminaria its distinctive taste.
The ongoing research into fucoidan has conclusively demonstrated its ability to induce cancer cell apoptosis (programmed cell death) in leukemia, stomach and colon cancer cell lines. This biological data support epidemiological observations that Laminaria is an important factor contributing to the relatively low breast cancer rates reported in Japan.
The technology involved in processing Laminaria japonica preserves and at the same time concentrates this vulnerable thermolabile substance thus making Modifilan one of the richest sources of cancer-fighting fucoidan.
Another polysaccharide concentrated in Modifilan that may have anti-cancer properties is laminarin. It is known that tumor formation and growth require a highly charged extra-cellular matrix. Solid tumors provoke ongoing high-level fibrin leakage from surrounding capillaries. This fibrin clot gets invaded by various cells recruited by solid tumors including fibroblasts and endothelial cells. The former cells lay down a heavily charged matrix throughout the tumor and the later cells participate in tumor angiogenesis (vascularization). Angiogenesis is a prerequisite for tumor expansion and metastasis. It has been shown that laminarin sulfate and fucoidan inhibit the binding of basic fibroblast growth factor (BFGF) to an extra-cellular matrix leading to inhibition of fibrin clot invasion by tumor- recruited fibroblasts and endothelial cells suggesting a novel approach to tumor therapy based on blocking angiogenesis.
Cancer metastasis involves the tumor cell adhesion to host tissue basement membrane followed by tissue invasion facilitated by tumor cell surface and PA (urokinaze-type plasminogen activator) associated plasminogen activation. Fucoidan interferes with cancer cells metastasis (anti-metastatic activity) by inhibition of physical interaction between the tumor cells and basement membrane as well as suppression of the proteolytic cascade of plasminogen activation.
Interaction and organization of cells and tissue in general and tumor and host cells in particular may be mediated by the interactions between cell membrane polysaccharides and the corresponding protein receptor. Fucoidan, a sulfated fucopolysaccharide, inhibits the adhesion process (cell-cell interaction) by blocking lectin-like adhesion molecules (glycoproteins) on cell surfaces and therefore interfering with tumor cell colonization (metastasis).
Another mechanism of antiproliferative (anti-tumor) properties of fucoidan was shown in vitro and in vivo on a cell line derived from a nonsmall-cell human bronchopulmonary carcinoma (particularly chemoresistant tumor). Fucoidan exerted antiproliferative activity with a block observed in the G1 phase of the cell cycle.
It has also been demonstrated that fucoidan acts as a so-called activator of the reticulo-endothelial system, specifically as an enhancer of phagocytosis. This suggests another aspect of antitumor activity of fucoidan related to the activation of macrophage-mediated tumor cell killing.
There are also non-polysaccharide fractions from Laminaria that have been found to have a significant cancer-preventative anti-mutagenic (anti-DNA damage) activity against typical genotoxic substances.
Another promising use of the sulfated polysaccharides fucoidan and laminarin is in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease. Several mechanisms are involved: the inhibition of smooth muscle cell proliferation (monoclonal hyperplasia) which is an important step in atherogeneses; activation of enzymes involved in the beta-oxidation of fatty acids which can be useful in the prevention and treatment of hyperlipedemia. Laminarin has been shown to have a hypotensive effect. It also exhibits 30% of the anticoagulant activity of heparin.
All of these properties of sulfated polysaccharides make Modifilan clinically applicable in the prevention and treatment of coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, atherosclerosis, cancerogenesis and cancer metastasis.
Another extremely important area of Modifilan application is in the environmental medicine. Polysaccharide laminarin has been shown in four animal species (mice, guineapigs, dogs, and monkeys) to prevent acute radiation sickness and death (about LD90) when administered within 24 hours after radiation exposure. This research suggests that the brown seaweed Laminaria can be clinically useful in the treatment and prevention of the adverse effects of ionizing radiation.
The non-digestible polysaccharide alginate that comprises 50% of Modifilan's total dry weight has the unique ability of binding heavy metals and radioactive substances to its own molecules. As the alginate is non-digestible it is excreted from the body together with toxic compounds. This is particularly important for cadmium and mercury, as these metals are found at dangerously high levels in air, water and food. Alginate can also remove isotopes that have previously been absorbed by the human body from the environment. Even small amounts of radioactive pollution will expose surrounding cells to harmful radioactive emission. The way alginate facilitates the excretion of toxic substances that find their way into the body from the environment can be shown using, as an example, the elimination of radioactive strontium:
Sr 2+ (food)
||
Sr 2+ (in GI tract) + alginate = strontium alginate feces
||
Sr 2+ (blood)
||
Sr 2+ (bones)
A percentage of Strontium molecules stored in the bone structure (or any other toxic substance stored in the tissue) is constantly released and is traveling with the blood stream. As the blood feeds the saliva and bile, part of the released strontium or other toxic metal ends up in the large intestine. Most of the liquid in the large intestine is reabsorbed by the body including the radioactive isotopes and heavy metals which are re-deposited back into the tissue. Alginate can break this process, as toxic substances are bound to the alginate molecules and released from the body with feces. Alginate binds to all heavy metals including lead, mercury, cadmium, cobalt, copper and radium.
Modifilan should be consumed over at least a four-month period to expedite removal of toxic substances stored in the body as a result of previous exposures.
Modifilan is an excellent bio-available source of organic iodine which is extremely helpful in treating thyroid disorders. Also in bio-available forms are the B vitamins, calcium, selenium, chromium, amino acids and many more trace elements. Clinical studies of Modifilan also show it can be effective in lowering cholesterol, triglyceride levels and high blood sugar, aiding digestion and elimination, strengthening hair and nails (including hair re-growth after radiation), and increasing energy.

Dear Ones.
As many of you know, I became a seaweed educator in the last years. Please read the following information about what we can do to protect ourselves from the possible RADIATION contamination that could be coming our way.
I am at this moment gathering the contact information of the several friends who have seaweed businesses in Northern California. They can quick ship the kelp to you. You can also shop at your local health food stores but they might be cleared out fast.
Basically the Brown Kelps, but most importantly Laminaria Digitata (Kombu), but also Fucus Vesiculosis ( Bladderwrack) and Alaria Marginata (Wakame) all have a substance Potassium Iodide which floods the system with enough organic iodine to prevent the uptake of Radioactive Iodine 131. Then the mucousy Sodium Alginate binds to RADIOACTIVE elements and chelates them, as well as heavy metals, chemicals, etc., removing the evil substances from human bodies through our urine. It is a double pronged approach, inhibiting absorption / preventing uptake and cleansing possible contamination.

Iodine Deficiency
http://altmedangel.com/iodine.htm
How to Self-Test for an Iodine Deficiency
1. Dip a cotton ball into USP Tincture of Iodine. (You can get iodine at the drugstore for under $1.)
2. Paint a 2 inch circle of iodine on your soft skin, like the inner part of your thigh or upper arm.
3. Wait. -- If the yellowish stain disappears in less than an hour; it means your body is lacking crucial iodine and has soaked it up. If the stain remains for more than four hours, you iodine levels are fine.
Why check your iodine levels?
Low iodine levels can zap your energy and make you feel tired, edgy and worn out. Low iodine levels can even prevent you from getting a good night's sleep. Before you go to your doctor with complaints of tossing and turning all night, aches and pains, and just feeling "blah," you may want to perform this self-test.
Because the symptoms of an iodine deficiency are classically identical to so many other illnesses (like depression, stress, chronic fatigue, or fibromyalgia,) many doctors either misdiagnose it or miss it completely and tell you there is nothing wrong.
Why are iodine levels so important?
Low levels of iodine mean your thyroid isn't functioning properly. The thyroid helps balance hormones, regulate heartbeats, stabilize cholesterol, maintain weight control, encourage muscle growth, keep menstrual cycles regular, provide energy, and even helps you keep a positive mental attitude.
Women are naturally prone to iodine deficiencies. That's because the thyroid gland in women is twice as large as in men -- so under normal circumstances, women need more iodine. However, when women are under stress, the need for iodine can double or triple. Yet the foods we eat contain less and less dietary iodine. For example, back in 1940, the typical American diet contained about 800 micrograms of iodine. By 1995, that amount plunged to just 135 micrograms. That's an 83% decline.
Two thirds of the body's iodine is found in the thyroid gland. One of the best ways to boost your iodine levels is to add seaweed sea vegetables to your diet. Just one teaspoon of sea vegetables a day can help you regain normal iodine levels. Incorporating seafood and fish into your diet can also help. Other foods that contain iodine are eggs and dairy products, including milk, cheese and yogurt, onions, radishes, and watercress. Some foods, called goitrogens, should be omitted for awhile as they hinder iodine utilization. These included kale, cabbage, peanuts, soy flour, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli, kohlrabi and turnips.
To reactivate the thyroid gland, tyrosine, iodine, zinc, copper and selenium are needed so make sure that foods containing these nutrients are included in your diet.

U.S. has 104 Nuclear Reactors - See Map of Locations
In doing some research on Nuclear Reactors in the U.S. I thought I would pass along some highlights:
The U.S. has 104 reactors, most of which are concentrated on the east coast and midwest (See Map of U.S. Reactors at the following link: http://www.nrc.gov/reactors/operating/map-power-reactors.html)
Of the 104 reactors:
35 are boiling water reactors (For more details go to: http://www.nei.org/resourcesandstats/nuclear_statistics/usnuclearpowerplants/)
69 are pressurized water reactors
The main reason I bring this up, is with earth changes on the rise and lots of geological experts saying the San Andreas fault on the West Coast and the New Madrid fault in the central U.S. (curves over to the Great Lakes)........are both showing signs of increased activity. Evidence of this:
There have been hundreds of earth quakes in Arkansas alone the past 2 months.
http://www.geology.arkansas.gov/geohazards/earthquakes.htm
Lots of activity in the Central U.S.
http://folkworm.ceri.memphis.edu/recenteqs/
Lots of activity all around the world and a good site to monitor the world earth quake scene.
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/
If by chance the New Madrid fault has some sizable activity......with all the nuclear reactors we have, it will be catastrophic for the U.S. and the rest of the world.
A few lessons we can learn from this:
Nuclear energy is not the safest and cleanest way to go. Everyone should voice their opinions on this, especially with all the suppressed alternative energy sources out there.
The U.S. is not a very safe place in regard to potential nuclear reactor fallout.

Fallout Foods That Block Radioactivity
http://myhealingkitchen.com/featured-articles/fallout-foods-that-block-radioactivity/
The powerful Jet Stream has just delivered radioactive fallout from those damaged Fukushima nuclear power plants in Japan to America's shores.
And while the officials say we "have little to worry about," I'll be taking a few extra precautions on protecting my health and my family, thank you very much.
You see, my home was only an hour down the road when Three Mile Island began to "experience problems" back in 1979 -- although Lieutenant Gov. William Scranton assured Pennsylvania residents that the radiation escaping the cooling towers "wasn't dangerous."
That official proclamation was all the motivation I needed to get my pregnant wife and our three-year-old daughter into our Toyota Land Cruiser and join the snaking exodus past Hershey, Pa., a town once known for chocolate until understatement stole its rep.
32 Years Ago Almost To the Day
"It's déjà vu all over again," as Yogi Berra once quipped-- but there's no driving away from this fallout, folks. Meteorologists say the entire US will be blanketed in a matter of days. Just what we need, eh?
With spring allergies now beginning to rage and BPA plastic turning up in the entire food chain, the last thing my besieged immune system needs is another boogeyman to scare it into a shutdown. How about you?
Fortunately, protection is as near as your local supermarket.
The editors and I here at MyHealingKitchen.com want to tell you about an easy, effective way to keep yourself and your family safe from the fallout overhead: That's by eating more iodine-rich foods in the days and weeks ahead.
If you've been consuming the healing superfoods and "meals that heal" which we spotlight on our website every week, you're already getting a healthy dose of natural cancer protection.
But because "unusual times require unusual precautions," this Special Report will clue you in to the special foods and supplements that shield you from radioactivity and the harm it can do. But first, let's start with the basics...
Japanese Fallout 101
Most of the nasty radiation from Japan right now is in the form of radioactive iodine-131, which lodges in the thyroid glands of mammals -- especially humans whose diets are deficient in protective iodine (That's about 95% of Americans, according to Soram Kalsa, MD and professor of clinical medicine who practices at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.)
While there are hundreds of other possible radioactive contaminants that may appear in much smaller particles, iodine-131 is the bad guy you should be most concerned about. That's because it lodges in the thyroid of mammals and can lead to cancer.
Potassium-iodide (KI) supplements, called "thyroid blockers," are the go-to emergency treatment, says Dr. Soram.
"Consuming KI before and during exposure to radiation is the accepted way to prevent radioactive form of iodine from lodging in your thyroid (as well as ovaries, uterus, prostate, and breasts) and keep it moving until it exits your body," he explains. So iodide supplements are usually administered."
"Consuming KI before and during exposure to radiation is the accepted way to prevent radioactive form of iodine from lodging in your thyroid (as well as ovaries, uterus, prostate, and breasts) and keep it moving until it exits your body," he explains. "Which is why iodide supplements are usually administered."
Although the federal government claims you only need a one-time dose of iodide just before or after exposure, this strategy is inappropriate if you're exposed over a longer-term or from farther away.
And this seems to be the case today.
Supplement Shortages and Price Gouging
But finding a reputable KI supplement may be difficult right now. That's because the Japanese nuclear disaster has triggered a massive demand for these tablets. And there is outrageous price-gouging happening online.
And that's not the worst of it. Unscrupulous manufacturers are cranking out worthless placebo tablets labeled as KI and charging exorbitant prices.
Although we haven't investigated them, here are two well-reviewed products with a good reputation for quality KI tablets...
Source Naturals Potassium Iodide
Thyro Shield Potassium Iodide Solution, Black Raspberry
But we aren't recommending that you run out and buy KI tablets (unless you just want the security of having a stash).
Supplements are only necessary for those contaminated within a 100-mile radius of the meltdown zone.
For everyone else, a much easier way to protect yourself is to boost your consumption of foods rich in natural iodine and antioxidants (nutrients that disarm the carcinogens that can cause various cancers).
Pass the Seaweed, Please
Even without a KI supply, you can protect yourself and family by eating more of what I call "fallout foods," which are rich in natural iodine.
These foods help ramp up your body's natural iodine supplies so that you're not vulnerable to radioactive iodine-131 getting into your organs.
Remember: When you're deficient in iodine, your body will soak up any iodine it encounters -- even if it's the radioactive kind. But if you're "topped off" with healthful, food-sourced iodine, the radioactive stuff can't lodge in your body.
The best food sources of iodine come from the oceans -- and topping the list is seaweed and other sea vegetables. These are the very best food source of iodine on the planet.
Seaweeds That We Love
If you're like most Americans, chances are the only seaweed you've swallowed was wrapped around a sushi roll. But seaweed and sea veggies are a mainstay in the Japanese diet (they consume more of it than any population on Earth), so they're getting as much protection as these foods can provide.
Here's a rundown of the most popular types of seaweed available...
Kelp has an amazing 12 mg of iodine per teaspoon of granules. Sprinkle it onto any meal--salads, soups, and whole grains.
Kombu is a type of kelp that comes in strips. Add one 5" strip to every pot of soup, grains and beans you cook (iodine is not affected by heat). It's painless and flavorless, and you can remove it after cooking so squeamish family member won't have to see it.
Dulse and wakame are other good sources of iodine, and one sheet of nori provides 70% of your daily recommendation.
Because iodine content varies greatly according to growing conditions, it's impossible to know for certain how much you're getting. But if you start adding it to you diet today, your thyroid will thank you -- even if radiation levels remain safe.
Once you start to appreciate the many health benefits that seaweed provides, it will be much easier to include it in your diet frequently.
And your health will really benefit because, in addition to protecting you from radiation, sea vegetables actually remove it from the body.
According to a 1964 McGill University study published by the Canadian Medical Association Journal, kelp reduces intestinal absorption of radioactive strontium-90 by up to 80% (thus it passes through the body instead of sticking around).
Seaweed Salads and Other Delights
Curious to see if we could make "seaweed snacking" more appealing to Western taste buds, we've been experimenting with new recipe ideas in our My Healing Kitchen Test Kitchen. Here are the winning favorites as voted by our Taste Panel...
Nori-Wrapped Crab Rolls with Wasabi and Roasted Red Pepper
Seaweed Cucumber Salad
You can also enjoy seaweed in the form of Annie Chun's Seaweed Snacks (or the many house brand offerings at Trader Joe's and Whole Foods). Around the MyHealingKitchen offices, we're finding them to be quite addictive.
Other Radiation-Blocking Foods to Munch
No way that you'll ever, ever eat seaweed?
You'll be happy to know there are several other foods that pack a big wallop of iodine, including asparagus, garlic, lima beans, mushrooms, sesame seeds, soybeans, spinach, summer squash, Swiss chard and turnip greens. Just know that these veggies are nowhere near as potent as the sea-faring sisters.
And forget that urban rumor about getting your iodine from iodized salt. You'd have to swallow a half a cup of salt to get a scant 13 mg -- and your blood pressure wouldn't appreciate that very much.
So have a bowl of miso soup instead.
The Japanese consume a lot of miso -- a savory, fermented soybean paste frequently used as a base for soups. Soybeans provide ample iodine on their own, but studies shown that miso strengthens people's resistance to radiation poisoning by up to five times, according to 1990 Hiroshima University research. And this review of miso studies shows phenomenal anti-cancer activity.
The fallout-fighting benefits of miso were first observed by Dr. Tatsuichiro Akizuki, M.D., who discovered that his staff and patients failed to develop radiation sickness, even though they were terribly near the atomic blast in Nagasaki. He attributed this to their unusually high daily consumption of miso and wakame seaweed soup.
Miso is incredibly versatile, too. You can use it as a bouillon or stock, put it in sandwich spreads, or sip it with grated ginger as a hearty tea.
Some mornings, I fill a quart jar with hot water, add 2 teaspoons of grated ginger with a tablespoon of miso, and enjoy it for hours. It's quick, easy, nourishing -- and very low-cal. Add a bit of kelp, call it a soup, and you've got twice the protection.
Other Radiation-Fighting Warriors
Radiation causes cancer by creating free radicals molecules that damage DNA. So it makes sense to eat more foods and supplements that are rich in antioxidants these days -- and research backs this up.
Choose foods loaded with the antioxidants vitamin C (papaya, kale, red bell peppers, broccoli, strawberries and kiwis), vitamin E (sunflower seeds, almonds, olives and spinach) and selenium (Brazil nuts, salmon, shrimp and turkey, and brown rice). All of these are cancer-blocking heavyweights. Let your eyes guide you: Fresh, brightly-colored foods tend to be antioxidant treasures.
You also should consume more whole grains, especially brown rice. They are rich in fiber, phosphorus, antioxidants and selenium, all of which help escort toxins from the body.
And don't forget herbal aid--Spanish researchers published research in the British Journal of Radiology demonstrating that nothing fights the free radicals created by radiation like rosemary. Since rosemary's essential antioxidants are fat-soluble, they provide critical protection in areas water-based antioxidants can't reach.
Other supplements that may be protective against radiation damage are vitamin D and vitamin K. Both support cell apoptosis, which is the programmed death of cells that accumulate various DNA errors (due to radiation and other causes). Vitamin D also supports DNA repair.
Time for Change
Following on the heels of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico just 13 months go, this is yet another wake-up call for us as global citizens, as well as Americans.
The terrible televised scenes from Japan re-emphasize the pressing need to transition to non-polluting, sustainable, renewable sources of energy immediately.
In the meantime, one thing each of us can do right away is conserve the energy available to us. Conservation is the cheapest form of energy we have.
The time for real alternative energy is here. The sooner we get working on it, the sooner we can pass a safer world on to our grandchildren.
Fallout Foods That Block Radioactivity

Radiation Exposure - What are the Health Risks?
Since the disaster events in Japan causing leakage of radiation from several nuclear power plants, we have had many of our clients contact us with questions about how to protect themselves from radiation poisoning. This is especially true for our friends in Hawaii. But even in California, Ted's wife, Patsy, who has relatives in Southern California, tells me that there are news reports telling folks to stay inside this weekend if there is rain.
The greater the shielding around a radiation source, the smaller the exposure. Shielding simply means having something that will absorb radiation between you and the source of the radiation. The amount of shielding required to protect against different kinds of radiation depends on how much energy they have.
(Alpha)
A thin piece of light material, such as paper, or even the dead cells in the outer layer of human skin provides adequate shielding because alpha particles can't penetrate it. However, the danger lies in inhaled or ingested alpha emitters.
(Beta)
Additional covering, for example heavy clothing, is necessary to protect against beta-emitters. Some beta particles can penetrate and burn the skin.
(Gamma)
Thick, dense shielding, such as lead, is necessary to protect against gamma rays. The higher the energy of the gamma ray, the thicker the lead must be. X-rays pose a similar challenge, so x-ray technicians often give patients receiving medical or dental X-rays a lead apron to cover other parts of their body.
Protection from Radiation Poisoning
When radioactive material gets inside your body, you have to wait until it decays or until your body can eliminate it. Alpha and beta particles are the main concern for internal exposure. Alpha and beta radiation concentrate in the thyroid. The thyroid needs iodine to function normally, and cannot tell the difference between stable and radioactive isotopes. As a result, alpha and beta radiation contributes to thyroid cancer more than other types of cancer. The key is to protect the thyroid. This is done by taking iodine/potassium supplements. If the thyroid is full of stable plant source iodine and potassium, radioactive isotopes cannot enter the thyroid. Kelp is an excellent source of both of these nutrients.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does radiation cause health effects?
Living tissue in the human body can be damaged by radiation in a unique manner. The body attempts to repair the damage, but sometimes the damage is of a nature that cannot be repaired or it is too severe or widespread to be repaired. The natural repair process can lead to cancerous cells.
What health problems does exposure to radiation cause?
Cancer is considered by most people the primary health effect from radiation exposure. Simply put, cancer is the uncontrolled growth of cells. Radiation’s ability to break chemical bonds in atoms and molecules makes it such a potent carcinogen. Other serious health effects may also occur. Radiation can cause changes in DNA, the “blueprints” that bring about cell repair. These changes in DNA are called “mutations”. Sometimes the body fails to repair these mutations or even creates mutations during repair. Mutations may be passed on to offspring.
High-Level Exposure
Unlike cancer, health effects from high-level exposure to radiation usually appear quickly with health effects that include burns and radiation sickness. Radiation sickness is also called ‘radiation poisoning.’ High-level radiation can cause premature aging or even death. If the dose is fatal, death usually occurs within two months. The symptoms of radiation sickness include: nausea, weakness, damage to bone marrow, hair loss, skin burns or diminished organ function.
Is any amount of radiation safe?
There is no real basis for setting a “safe” level of exposure for radiation. In setting limits, the Environmental Protection Agency states that any increase in radiation exposure has a possibility of serious health concerns.
How do we know radiation causes cancer?
Scientists recognized as early at 1910 that radiation caused skin cancer. Scientists began to keep track of the health effects, and soon set up careful scientific studies of groups of people who had been exposed.
Among the best known long-term studies are those of Japanese atomic bomb blast survivors, other populations exposed to nuclear testing fallout (for example, natives of the Marshall Islands), and uranium miners.
Are children more sensitive to radiation than adults?
Yes, because children are growing more rapidly, there are more cells dividing and a greater opportunity for radiation to disrupt the process. Fetuses are also highly sensitive to radiation. The resulting effects depend on which biological systems are developing at the time of exposure.
If exposed to radioactive fallout, what should I do?
* Protecting your thyroid, the most vulnerable organ in your body
* Removing as much of the radiation as possible from your body, as quickly as possible
* Protecting your DNA from genetic mutation
Iodine
Radioactive iodine is released into the upper atmosphere after a nuclear event. This radiation can be carried great distances on high speed winds and then drop down into the lower atmosphere, where it may be breathed into the lungs. Radioactive iodine can also contaminate crops on the ground and get into the body through food and drink. The problem is that your thyroid gland has a tremendous affinity for iodine, radioactive or otherwise. In other words, the thyroid gland quickly absorbs radioactive iodine, where it can injure or even kill the gland.
To protect your thyroid from exposure to radioactive iodine, taking non-radioactive iodine just before, or immediately after, exposure will block radioactive iodine from being taken into the thyroid gland. It will thus protect this gland from injury. Taking non-radioactive iodine will not prevent radioactive iodine, or any other form of radiation, from entering your body. Taking non-radioactive iodine before exposure will merely “prefill” your thyroid with iodine so that there is no room for the radioactive iodine to be taken up by your thyroid; thus the need to take the non-radioactive iodine before or immediately after exposure.
Ideally, the best time to take supplemental iodine is an hour or so before exposure, or immediately upon exposure, for maximum protection. Take it too soon in advance, and it will begin to clear the thyroid before the radioactive iodine enters the body, thus diminishing its effectiveness. Iodine clears the thyroid in about 24 hours. Take it too late, and the radioactive iodine will have already been taken up by the thyroid, in which case there will be little benefit. The important thing is to have a supply of iodine on hand when you need it.
The standard form of iodine used in nuclear power plants to protect workers against radiation exposure in case of a leak is potassium iodide. But potassium iodide is not the only form of stable iodine. In fact, all living sources such as kelp are equally stable and may be used instead.
How much iodine should I take?
According to the United States Food and Drug Administration, the following doses are appropriate to take after internal contamination with, or likely internal contamination with, radioactive iodine:
* Adults up through age 40 should take 130 mg. Women who are breastfeeding should take 130 mg. Pregnant women should take only one dose. Nursing mothers should probably stop breastfeeding if they are exposed and use formula if available.
* Children between the ages of 3 and 18 should take 65 mg. Children who weigh 150 lbs or more should take 130 mg, regardless of their age.
* Infants and toddlers between the ages of 1 month and 3 years, either nursing or non-nursing, should take 32 mg.
* Newborns from birth to 1 month, both nursing and non-nursing, should be given 16 mg. Infants who receive supplemental iodine should have their thyroid hormone levels checked and monitored by a doctor.
A one-time dose at the levels recommended above is usually all that is needed to protect the thyroid gland. In some cases, radioactive iodine might be in the environment for more than 24 hours. If that happens, local emergency management or public health officials may tell you to take one dose of iodine every 24 hours for a few days. You should do this only on the advice of emergency management officials, public health officials, or your doctor.
Taking a higher dose of iodine, or taking iodine more often than recommended, does not offer more protection.
Also do not take iodine:
* If you are already taking medication with high levels of iodine.
* You are allergic to iodine.
* If you have a thyroid disease that is iodine sensitive such as Grave’s disease, do not take supplemental iodine without your doctor’s permission and guidance.
Is there anything else you should do?
Absolutely!
Iodine only protects the thyroid, and only protects against radioactive iodine (iodine-131 and iodine-134). It doesn’t offer any protection against plutonium, cesium-137, and strontium-90, which are also likely to be present. It doesn’t clear radioactive matter from your body. It doesn’t protect against damage to your genetic material. If worst comes to worst:
* Use supplemental iodine from kelp as described above.
* Use a good colon detox formula
* Use a good anti-oxidant formula to protect the body against genetic damage caused by exposure to radioactivity.
Again, remember!
* We do not have an emergency situation yet.
* You don’t want to take iodine prematurely since it clears out of the thyroid in 24 hours.
* Overdosing on iodine is a distinct possibility if you get carried away. Don’t get carried away.
The bottom line is that there is no need for panic. Outside of Japan, nothing has happened yet. Chill out. The odds of anything serious happening outside of Japan are very, very low. Your best bet is to make sure you have some iodine locked away for some future emergency.

Kelp and the Fallout Zone: Natural Foods Stores in Western USA Sold Out of Radiation-Fighting Supplements
by Steven Hoffman
Boulder, CO (March 16, 2011) -- Returning from the Natural Products Expo West on Monday, I discovered something very disturbing, and yet fascinating, as I went shopping at my local natural foods store in my hometown of Boulder.
All of the kelp dietary supplements were sold out. This is a phenomenon that is occurring in natural foods stores throughout the Western USA. While government officials are saying risk of radiation exposure is low from the nuclear reactor catastrophe in Japan, US citizens aren't buying it. Instead, they are buying foods, nutritional supplements and natural medicines to counter the effects of radiation, to the point where these products are out of stock in many stores throughout the West.
At Natural Grocers in nearby Longmont, CO, they were also sold out of all kelp and much of their green foods supplements. I spoke with nutritionists in the store, and also with a fellow informed citizen who was shopping for supplements to help protect his teenage son from the risks of radiation fallout. They recommended kelp, chlorella, spirulina, green foods, selenium and lots of dark green leafy vegetables to help counter the effects of radioactive fallout. Convinced that green foods are good for us anyway, we purchased a high quality superfood powder just in case . Maybe a good idea as the news worsens by the day.
Just to check, I called a Whole Foods Market in the Bay Area, as California will be among the first to experience fallout from the jet stream. A team member there told me that yep, they're sold out of all kelp supplements, too. Same phenomenon at Pharmaca locations and independent natural foods stores throughout the West, too, according to sources.
Additionally, I was told that Whole Foods will not carry any potassium iodide supplements in large "milligram" potencies. Since there is a great risk of iodine toxicity, these higher levels must be taken only under the supervision of a physician, Whole Foods says, and many experts agree. The natural grocery chain is exploring such supplements in safer "micro-milligram" potencies, as demand for these products has soared through the roof.
I also spoke with my friend, herbal medicine expert and noted author Brigitte Mars ( www.brigittemars.com ) to ask how people can protect themselves from radiation through food, nutrition and natural medicine. Excerpts from her recommended list, posted on her Facebook page and on her website, is as follows. Read the full article on Brigitte's website.

* Vitamins A, beta-carotene, B complex and C; and zinc, calcium and magnesium
In a letter to subscribers, raw food specialist David Wolfe shared these sobering recommendations:
"How to protect yourself and your thyroid against radiation: kelp, ginseng, ashwaganda (recently found to regrow nerves), chlorella, zeolites, fulvic acid, nascent iodine, reishi mushroom, sea salt (also salty miso), botanical (plant-derived) or lipo-vitamin C, magnesium (chlorophyll), selenium (brazil nuts), coconut butter (coconut products), Megahydrate, Crystal Energy. Spread the word .
"Start small, but increase your dosages rapidly and dramatically if you live in Hawaii, Western Canada, and the Western USA. Start now. Fallout will descend upon North America sometime around March 22.
"If you live in Japan, start taking massive doses of these foods, superfoods, superherbs, and supplements immediately. These are all safe for children.
"Radioactive fallout lingers longest in medicinal mushrooms. If you live in North America, pick your mushrooms NOW. I wouldn't recommend picking any medicinal mushrooms in the fallout zones (after the fallout begins) for several years, if not a decade depending on how bad the radiation is.
"If you live in North America, stock up on food NOW because fresh food may be contaminated for several months after the fallout comes down from the jet stream into the fallout zones."
Regarding any of the recommendations above, I urge you to do your homework and consult a physician and complementary alternative medicine practitioner.
Another concern is how fallout from the crippled reactor in Japan might affect agriculture in the Western US, as so much of our fruits and vegetables come from California and the Northwest. Spring rains could well bring radioactive fallout to this year's crop, and how will radiation in the soil affect future crops? I will be doing some more research in this regard for an upcoming post.
Between a massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico last year, and now the nuclear tragedy in Japan, the earth is being increasingly subjected to major environmental trauma from heavy industry. So are its people. As long as the costs of environmental destruction continue to be born by the citizens and not the corporations and governments that are culpable, we have no level playing field.
So we are left to buying out all the kelp off the shelf of our local natural foods stores to try to protect our families from the fallout of a legacy of greed and destruction.

* Buckwheat and brown rice
* Seaweeds rich in iodine and microminerals, such as Hiziki, found in macrobiotic or Asian food sections
* Wheatgrass and barley grass
* Sulfur rich vegetables including broccoli, cabbage and mustard greens
* High-pectin foods including carrots, sunflower seeds and apples
* Liver-cleansing foods such as artichokes, beets and radishes
* Fermented foods such as miso and unpasteurized sauerkraut
* Nutritional yeast
* Garlic, burdock, dandelion, milk thistle seed, nettles, yellow dock
* Echinacea
* Green and black tea
* Eleuthero
* Vitamins A, beta-carotene, B complex and C; and zinc, calcium and magnesium

URGENT PRACTICAL ADVICE ABOUT RADIATION PROTECTION
Dear Friends of HealthyWorldStore.com:
Below is the best article with the most practical natural ways to protect yourself and your loved ones from radiation exposures that are expected to begin soon on the mainland US and Hawaii. I do not know who the hero is who wrote it, but it was forwarded to me, and now from me to you.
Hoarding of potassium iodide supplements are expected to continue, and we have very few bottles of Brown Seaweed Extract left in stock. We expect to have a couple hundred more in stock next week, so get it while you can. Expect a run on miso soup in health food stores, and baking soda in supermarkets, as well.
Our store is currently well-stocked with ZeoLife containing natural iodine, but we expect to sell out of this product soon too, after this mailing in fact, because, as you read below, not only is a natural iodine supplement recommended daily during exposure periods, but zeolite is probably the best natural detoxification material along with edible clay.
We are normally well-stocked with edible (Prophyllite) clay, but expect these supplies to disappear quickly too, and will try our best to reorder depending on your need and demand.
Green Harvest is highly recommended now too, as you will read about the need for excellent organic green nutrients available in this product. I have been using this product daily for years.
For the recommended extra vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and antioxidants, PrimoLife would be an excellent single-product choice.
Right now we are working feverishly on manufacturing two new products to help attenuate ionizing radiation risks, and will let you know when these products become available.
We ask for everyone to pray for humanity, all life forms, and Mother Earth.
In 1998, I ended the book Healing Codes for the Biological Apocalypse stating that THE ONLY RELIABLE PROTECTION AGAINST RADIATION IS YOUR CONNECTION TO GOD. I pray that you received this message early enough to secure this sustaining relationship.
With much LOVE in 528,

The unfolding events relating to Japan's damaged nuclear reactors is raising the concern in the U.S. of a worst-case scenario of multiple meltdowns with a consequent cloud of radioactive particles following the jet stream over to the U.S. The prevailing jet stream winds will impact Los Angeles to Alaska, and will include Hawaii. Radioactive pollution will reach the U.S. within 36 hours. It will then travel the typical jet stream across the U.S. that you see on your daily weather programs.
A coordinated cover-up of the severity of the situation is underway. This sort of behavior is typical of governments, especially when they are interested in protecting their power base and protecting the interests of transnational corporations.
Japanese health authorities are passing out iodine tablets to those in the vicinity of these reactors -- as it is common knowledge that the thyroid gland is a weak spot when it comes to radiation exposure. By flooding the body with iodine it is taken up by the thyroid which then blocks radiation uptake into the thyroid, reducing the risk for future thyroid cancer (which is already an epidemic form of cancer in the U.S. in part likely due to excess CT scans).
Such iodine saturation should occur 24 hours prior to exposure and be maintained during the duration of excess exposure. This solution is not without risks, especially when potassium iodide is used. That is because excess iodine can clog thyroid function, inducing either hypo or hyper thyroid. However, that risk is trivial compared to acute radiation exposure -- thus iodine makes sense. We like water-soluble iodine that in our experience is much less problematic when higher doses are used. Liquids can be applied transdermally, directly over the neck region or taken orally, and reapplied as desired based on concerns.
Protecting the thyroid with iodine seems to be about all public health officials are willing to recommend to the public. However, there are other important steps every person should consider. Radiation interaction within your body generates massive amounts of damaging free radicals, in turn potentially inducing DNA damage that may lead to future cancer -- often manifesting a decade or two later. This means it is a good idea to maximize your overall antioxidant defenses. Ideally, this system of defense should be bolstered in advance to provide maximal defense. Unfortunately the antioxidant defense systems of a majority of Americans are in shoddy condition.
Many nutrients contain antioxidants and many of these behave in your vital antioxidant network to protect your DNA from damage. In your diet these nutrients come from fruits, vegetables, whey protein, and whole grains. Additionally, almost any nutrient supplement with antioxidant properties, such as vitamin C, will help bolster your antioxidant team. We suggest that everyone consume a broad spectrum of antioxidant support as the minimum. Indeed, a cocktail of antioxidants (selenium, vitamin C, N-acetyl cysteine, alpha-lipoic acid, alpha-tocopherol succinate, and co-enzyme Q10) started 24 hours after a lethal level of radiation exposure has been shown to be highly protective.
There are three specific nutrients that have science showing they can protect your body against radiation damage: tocotrienols, antioxidants from berries, and lipoic acid.
Tocotrienols are a unique form of vitamin E that offers protection that regular vitamin E does not. In a recent animal experiment carried out by the U.S. Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute it was shown that gamma tocotrienol can protect against whole body radiation exposure.
Excessive radiation exposure damages DNA, especially DNA relating to the system in our bone marrow that produces all the red and white blood cells that are vital for survival. Therefore radiation exposure has adverse consequences on circulatory health and immune system competence, disturbing energy balance and increasing the risk for cancer. Of particular importance are the hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) that constantly rejuvenate blood and can become any of the white or red blood cells, as well as the hematopoietic progenator cells (HPCs) that transform into specific blood cells. Both HSCs and HPCs are the life force of blood cell rejuvenation and essential to your good health.
Stem cell colonies (HSCs) are 80% - 86% maintained in gamma tocotrienol-treated mice, while they were 50% reduced in controls. Similarly, progenator cells (HPCs) have recovered completely within 7 days in gamma tocotrienol treated mice, while they remained at 30% for weeks in the controls.
A detailed analysis of the bone marrow showed that gamma tocotrienol maintained the regenerative integrity of bone marrow cells. Gamma tocotrienol protects hematopoietic tissue by preserving the HSCs and HPCs and by preventing persistent DNA damage.
Another recent animal study shows that gamma tocotrienol can offset the adverse effects of radiation exposure, including the reduction of peroxynitrite, the most damaging free radical. This is important because as free radicals begin forming their reactions can cascade into producing large amounts of the most damaging of all free radicals, peroxynitrite. Short-circuiting peroxynitrite formation in response to radiation exposure is of immense importance to protecting DNA.
Lipoic acid is a very small and versatile fat- and water-soluble antioxidant. Animal studies show that it helps maintain the antioxidant defense system in multiple body tissues upon radiation exposure, especially protecting the brain, liver, spleen, kidney, and testes.
The health status of some 6,000 workers from Latvia who went to clean-up the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant has been followed for several decades. These workers suffered higher-than-normal rates of problems in their nervous, digestive, respiratory, cardiovascular, endocrine system (especially thyroid) and immunological systems. A study conducted on some of these workers 10 years after the fact showed that 600 mg of lipoic acid for two months was able to normalize many, but not all, of their lab abnormalities. Too bad they didn't have protection prior to and during exposure. Pretreatment with lipoic acid has been shown to significantly reduce radiation exposure damage to the brain.
Recent animal research conducted by the United States Department of Agriculture showed that blueberry and strawberry extracts helped prevent brain damage from radiation exposure. Interestingly, the polyphenols of each fruit protected different areas of the brain -- supporting a variety of dietary berry intake and/or supplements with multiple berries. Having an adequate antioxidant defense system for more optimal health is common sense. During times of increased stress your needs for antioxidants rise -- and this relates to any type of stress. Radiation exposure is simply one more type of stress -- a rather nasty type. The demands in your life or existing health concerns may already be testing your antioxidant bank account. Bolstering your antioxidant defense system to compensate for a potential challenge is common sense.
If you have been exposed to too many X-rays or CAT scans, if you fly too much, work with diagnostic medical equipment or are environmentally sensitive and have ingested elevated levels of radioactive contaminated food, air or water, you also want to partake of the following protocol on a regular basis
Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda)
The oral administration of sodium bicarbonate diminishes the severity of the changes produced by uranium in the kidneys. The kidneys are usually the first organs to show chemical damage upon uranium exposure. Old military manuals suggest doses or infusions of sodium bicarbonate to help alkalinize the urine if this happens. This makes the uranyl ion less kidney-toxic and promotes excretion of the nontoxic uranium-carbonate complex. So useful and strong is sodium bicarbonate that at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, researcher Don York has used baking soda to clean soil contaminated with uranium. Sodium bicarbonate binds with uranium, separating it from the dirt; so far, York has removed as much as 92 percent of the uranium from contaminated soil samples. The United States Army recommends the use of bicarbonate to protect the kidneys from radiation damage.
Sodium bicarbonate can safely remove paint, grease, oil and smoke residue, decreasing workers' exposure to harsh chemicals and eliminating much of the hazardous waste associated with other cleaners. "Sodium bicarbonate is able to clean in areas where other substances pose fire hazards, because baking soda is a natural fire extinguisher," says Kenneth Colbert, a general manager for Arm & Hammer. This is the reason it's used by oncology centers to control chemo agent spills and it's actually used intravenously to protect patients from the hazardous toxicity of chemotherapy.
Uranium is one of the only metals that get significant bonding from carbonate. Just flushing a lot of bicarbonate through the system, along with whatever kidney support you are going to use, will be very helpful. There is no better therapy for radiation sickness then intense sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and magnesium baths with the appropriate clay added in. Even sodium thiosulfate can be added to these baths and that instantly neutralizes any chlorine in the bath water while simultaneously providing sulfur for the vital sulfur pathways.
Bicarbonate and Nuclear Fallout
If the bombs start dropping anywhere on earth, or if you live near a nuclear plant, you will want to have a large amount of sodium bicarbonate on hand. Minimum stocks should be 25 or 50 pounds. Normally we recommend someone start with using one pound of bicarbonate in a bath but that could easily be two or three pounds in an emergency situation. You will also need a lot of magnesium salts and the very best and most penetrating of them is the magnesium chloride in the form of magnesium bath flakes. Dead Sea salt is also fine for this application because it is high in magnesium.
Exposure to radiation causes a cascade of free radicals that wreak havoc on the body. Radiation decimates the body's supply of glutathione. Nebulization is one of the best ways to quickly increase glutathione levels as is the use of glutathione rectal suppositories. The main cancer risk from inhaled uranium oxide and other airborne radioactive particles is from tiny insoluble particles lodged deep in the lungs. That's a good reason to nebulize both glutathione and bicarbonate directly into the lungs and one must wonder why governments and health officials haven't sponsored this.
Uranium oxide can be inhaled by soldiers and civilians, it sticks to the lining of the lungs, it is taken up by cells of the immune systems and gets into lymph glands, bone, brain, hormone producing glands, ovaries and testes. It stays in these organs for many decades and is only very slowly excreted in urine. Nebulization topically treats the lung tissues allowing for best effect on contaminated lung tissues.
The scientist with the greatest genius, especially when it comes to mercury chelation, is Dr. Chris Shade. He has developed a sophisticated detoxification system based on enhancing the natural removal of metals through the intestines. Though his specialty is mercury, detoxification and chelation of radioactive poisons use the same pathways as mercury. He has developed three products that are effective for the removal of mercury including a liposome formula that allows us to get glutathione into the system via oral administration.
Combining his formulas with chlorella powder gives the best possible medical formula to help remove radioactive contamination as long as iodine, magnesium chloride, a super-food, spirulina-based powerful chlorophyll-rich formula that is easy to administer in high quantities because of its exceptionally pleasant taste, and edible clay are used as well. The intense levels of will quickly help build up a person's immune system and help them recover from the RNA/DNA damage caused by radiation exposure.
Uranium-238 is being eliminated in the hair using heavy metal detox protocols; to date there is no natural chelating agent known to mobilize and eliminate uranium-238 from body tissues.
Cilantro will move heavy metals and radioactive material out of the brain cells into the detoxification pathways with rectal suppositories of Detoxamin working on the liver's glutathione pathway to get the material out through the intestines. The internal consumption of edible clay and external clays dramatically facilitate this process. Zeolite clay baths are a very effective way of removing heavy metals from the body and increase one's chances of survival if exposed to nuclear fallout. Also activated charcoal powder in water will bind these toxins and pass them out of the body.
Iodine
Iodine is the most obvious and important element in protecting against radiation damages. Radioactive iodine will plunge into any and all iodine receptor cites that have no iodine in them due to iodine deficiencies. This is a serious problem because over 90 percent of people in North America are iodine deficient. This leaves them incredibly vulnerable to radioactive iodine, which is one of the principle forms of radiation given off in nuclear accidents and from nuclear weapons.
Intravenous Cocktails
In cases of serious exposure, IV cocktails with high dosages of vitamin C, magnesium chloride or sulfate, sodium bicarbonate and very pure seawater full of all the minerals necessary for life would be ideal. Dr. David Brownstein administers a slow IV vitamin C drip--usually 25-50 gm, with minerals, and he adds 10cc of sodium bicarbonate.
The addition of bicarb to the IVs made a huge clinical improvement.
Nutrients to the Rescue
Spirulina and chlorella have been used heavily by the Russians after the Chernobyl nuclear plant disaster. And the Japanese love their miso soup and that was said to help some of their citizens survive the fallout after the Americans attacked two of their cities. We recommend a green powder in high doses that is high spirulina and chlorella content because it is like rocket fuel for the cells, providing them with a broad range of concentrated nutrients.
Miso is effective for detoxifying your body of radiation. During World War II, two hospitals that were located side by side were hit with atomic radiation, in one hospital people consumed Miso and all of them survived while many people in the other hospital that did not take miso died. Miso is rich in vitamin B12 therefore it is suitable for vegetarians who are in shortage of vitamin B12. For best results do not cook miso.
There are a number of foods that can better help our bodies tolerate the effects of pollution. Eating lower on the food chain minimizes our chemical intake. Consuming more whole grains has a multitude of benefits, unless you are intolerant to certain grains. Their high fiber content binds with toxins and lessens intestinal transit time. Their vitamin B6 content nourishes the thymus gland and their vitamin E content helps the body to better utilize oxygen. The grain buckwheat is high in rutin and helps to protect against radiation and stimulates new bone marrow production. The mucilaginous fiber in seaweed helps to prevent the reabsorbing of radioactive strontium 90.
Following the bombing of Nagasaki, a group of surviving macrobiotic doctors and their patients avoided radiation sickness by eating brown rice, miso and seaweed. They also did not get leukemia. Seaweeds also help to break down fatty deposits. High-chlorophyll foods like wheatgrass, barley grass, kale, collard greens, beet greens, swiss chard, etc. strengthen cells, transport oxygen, help to detoxify the blood and liver as well as help to neutralize polluting elements and stimulate RNA production. Sulfur-rich vegetables like broccoli, cabbage and mustard greens, as well as garlic, combine with heavy metals and help prevent free radical damage.
The sulfur compounds trigger increased expression of your glutathione system, which results in both metal detoxification and free radical neutralization. The other group of food compounds that do this is the polyphenolic antioxidants -- pine bark extract, green tea extract, grape seed extract, and Haritaki or terminalia chebula, an Ayurvedic fruit that is the basis for many medicines including the intestinal detoxifier Triphala. This fruit is used extensively in Tibetan Medicine where it is called the "King of Herbs." It has potent effects on the glutathione system and on expression of other intracellular antioxidants such as superoxide dismutase (SOD).
Research on animals indicates that curcumin (an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compound found in the curry spice turmeric) may help protect against radiation-induced damage to the skin. Other research in animals shows that the herb ginkgo biloba may help shield against organ damage resulting from radiation therapy. And aloe vera is a natural remedy for radiation-induced skin changes preventing or minimizing radiation-induced skin reactions.

Knowledge is Power (Fukushima - Nuclear Meltdown Seems Increasingly Likely)
Hello Everyone,
Hope this message finds you doing well! With the increased info I've received the past 24 hours I have changed my tune on the seriousness of the Fukushima Power Plant in regards to global fallout. It now appears that a partial or total nuclear meltdown seems increasingly likely which in a worst case scenario will have global impact (not to mention the financial meltdown it could also trigger). Mike Adams has done more great research connecting with an inside source in Japan who has a background in atomic energy and nuclear reactors. Read below and click link for full article.......
A Personal Comment......... please remember we are all connected as living beings on this planet regardless of creed or color......I'm calling for a concerted effort of prayer and positive intentions for this whole thing to subside......there is POWER IN PRAYER. And if done together the POWER is exponential. For those on this list......I am extending an invitation for you to join me in focused prayer at 12 noon EST for 5 minutes of focused prayer (and if you don't like the word "prayer," do whatever opens your communication line with the Creator and invokes the creative healing powers within yourself directed to our brothers and sisters in Japan.
PREPARE, PREPARE, PREPARE, Daren
P.S. If the Fukushima really blows........you should maybe consider heading for the southern hemisphere as the trade winds do not cross the equator.
NaturalNews Insider Alert ( www.NaturalNews.com ) email newsletter
(Unsubscribe instructions at bottom)
Dear NaturalNews readers,
Things are getting far worse in Japan. As of this writing, a partial or total nuclear meltdown event seems increasingly likely. Nuclear engineers have essentially surrendered to the laws of physics now at the Fukushima power plant and pulled all the workers off the site. Now it's just a matter of watching and praying.
This is Japan's worst nuclear nightmare coming to life. The future of civilization on our planet will be forever altered after this event. Expect massive changes to be set into motion on issues like energy use, fossil fuels, the false promise of "scientific progress," the destruction of our planet's environment and other life-and-death issues.
Today we received word from an inside source in Tokyo who told me that the Fukushima nuclear plant is now basically a "dirty bomb" just waiting to go off. Read the full report here:
http://www.naturalnews.com/031718_nuclear_power_dirty_bomb.html
Meanwhile, online sellers of potassium iodide supplements are now engaged in widespread price gouging and profiteering. Our report by Ethan Huff exposes these highly unethical pricing practices that seek to exploit fear for obscene profits:
http://www.naturalnews.com/031716_potassium_iodide_price_gouging.html
As a service to those who are desperate to get sources of iodine before the possibility of a nuclear fallout event (which could strike the U.S. West Coast), I've put together an article that highlights natural sources of iodine in foods and superfoods, many of which you should still be able to get at local health food stores if you hurry:
http://www.naturalnews.com/031717_iodine_sea_vegetables.html
And Dr. Marc Sircus brings us an informative story today on using iodine to prevent damage from radiation exposure: Get the facts you need to know:
http://www.naturalnews.com/031715_iodine_radiation.html
We are working around the clock here at NaturalNews right now to find you more sources for iodine. Potassium is easy to get through regular foods (bananas, sweet potatoes, etc.), but iodine is much harder to come by. We're also working like crazy to bring you up-to-the-minute news about these developments in Japan and how this is going to impact our world.
There are huge issues here that most people have not considered yet. For example, how will Japan rebuild its infrastructure after all this? It will almost certainly start selling off U.S. debt (Treasury notes). This could start a tidal wave of selling off of U.S. debt which would make it impossible for the U.S. to auction off its next round of needed debt to finance the out-of-control debt spending happening under the Obama administration.
Japan's nuclear meltdown, in other words, could catalyze America's financial meltdown.
We could quite literally be looking at a financial tsunami that follows the physical tsunami that has wiped out a huge portion of Japan's infrastructure.
What can you do to protect yourself? We're scrambling to get you good information on this as quickly as we can. Our "Financial Preparedness" event coming this Sunday has long since been sold out, but we will work to make recordings of the event available next week at a reasonable price for those who want to listen to it. And for the revenue we're earning on this, by the way, we've already pledged $5,000 in donations to Japan, and we are working on ways to coordinate more rescue efforts that may involve nutritional supplements for those in need.
The world needs our collective help right now. If you believe in prayer, I ask that you pray for Japan today, and for the future of life on our planet. If you don't believe in prayer, then send good luck, good karma or whatever you believe in. This is a defining moment for human civilization. The future of our world rests upon our shoulders at this very instant.
If we cannot prevent our own self destruction, then we have no future on planet Earth. Let us hope and pray that mankind will find the wisdom to live on this world without destroying it in the process. (Is that too much to hope for?)
P.S. Chlorella helps rid the body of radiation *after* exposure. Spirulina has also been used therapeutically in this way following nuclear disasters. You can expect the next high-demand superfood items to include chlorella, spirulina and other cleansing supplements such as zeolites. We are currently stocking up on a massive amount of chlorella supplements in order to meet the expected demand so that we don't run out this time...

This is VERY GOOD info that will come in very handy sooner or later. When CNN and FOX are telling Americans that things are going fairly well in Japan my response is that it's time to redouble efforts.
We will need to have our own monitoring capabilites in place to know what is really going on with radiation levels, if not now, then in the future. The cheapest way to have that basic portable capability is with a "Nukalert" you can carry in your pocket, available from www.ki4u.com . I've had one for about 8 years and it DOES pick up on radiation as I found out at the dentist's and had everyone wondering what all the little chirping noises were.
If you are expecting someone other than yourself to do anything for you to help you through planetary adjustments, you are going to have a very long wait. With God all things are possible and surviving radiation is mostly a matter of knowing what to do. There is plenty of information available to make this possible: inconvenient perhaps, but quite possible. Keep on keeping on.
